Maryam Yusuf JAMAL - Bahrain - 2007 World Championships 1500m Gold medal

The main photo above shows Maryam Yusuf crossing the line to win gold in the final of the women's 1500m at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Jamal's time of 3.58.75 secs was a seasons best and saw her finish 24 hundredths of a second clear of the silver medallist Yelena Soboleva. The inset picture shows Maryam Yusuf closely tailing Soboleva with 800m to go, Kenya's Viola Kibiwot (644) is the other athlete near the head of the field. Jamal later commented: "I won because I ran according to my plan and I am happy for winning the gold medal."
