At the World Championships, Rosângela became the first Brazilian female sprinter ever to run the
100 m in under 11 seconds, clocking 10.91 in the semifinal to seta new national and South America
record to the distance. She is pictured above in that semi-final, won by Thompson in 10.84.
Rosângela Santos has dual American and Brazilian citizenship.
