The 2004 Olympic 110 metres hurdles champion Lui Xiang, for the second time at a subsequent Games,
got no further than the first hurdle. In London he crashed to the track after hitting the first barrier in his heat
that saw three of the competitors fail to finish. The photo above shows him sprawled on his back.
Artur Noga of Hungary (European bronze medallis just four weeks earlier) did not even pass the first hurdle.
In 2008 Lui pulled out of the 110m hurdles at the start of his heat following a false start.
Xiang in 2011, when he looked like winning the World Championship, was impeded by
Dayron Robles in the final metres and thus suffered more misfortune. Xiang finished second with Robles being disqualified.
