The pictures above show Blanka attempting a new World Record height
of 2.10m during the final of the womens High Jump at the 2007 World
Championships in Osaka. By this time the gold medal was in the bag for
the Croatian, her clearance of 2.05m seeing off the challenge of Italy's
Antonietta Di Martino and Russia's Anna Chicherova who both cleared 2.03m.
It was the first medal that Vlasic had won at a major championship and
there is no better colour to win than gold! Vlasic later commented:
"I'm just relieved, I wanted it so bad. Now I'm in a state of shock, I don't realise.
I'm tired after this. I was the favourite, so had to deal with a lot of pressure.
This is a championship, you cannot expect to clear every bar in the first attempt.
It was not easy to beat them."
