After representing Cuba for eight years 2005-2012, Alexis Copello moved to Azerbajan.
After winning the silver medal at the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games 16.90m, he then
jumped at the World Championships in London, where is produced a season best of 17.16m
to take fifth place. Two days later he reached his 33rd. birthday. His personal best set
in 2011 (17.8m) was the winning jump in London.
