The race action pictures above show the closing few metres of the
men's 110m Hurdles final at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Dayron
(centre of photo) produced an excellent performance to comfortably win
the gold medal in a time of 12.93 secs, with the American pair David
Payne (right of photo) and David Oliver winning silver and bronze
respectively. The left hand picture shows Robles in full flow during the
semi-finals.
Alas the eagerly awaited showdown between Robles
and China's Xiang Liu did not materialise due to an injury sustained by
Liu, which left Dayron to reflect: "It's disappointing Liu was not able
to be here in the final, but I'm sure he will come back and we will have
a really good rivalry next year in the world championships."
Of
his victory, the Cuban added: "I feel very good, I feel complete,
everything was good. I'm ecstatic that I am Olympic champion. It has
always been my dream. I've learned a lot over the past couple of years,
and my technique has improved significantly...from the beginning to the
end, it was fantastic technically."
