The 1992 Olympic Champion finished 14th in the decathlon in Gotenburg and 7th.
at the 1996 Olympics, in Atlanta, when trying to retain his title.
His personal best for the decathlon was 8627 set in 1992 (Götzis)
In 1997 he won the World Indoor Heptathon Championship in Paris but then failed to
finish the decathlon at that year's World Championships - his last major International appearance.
