Birgit Uibel Sonntag (born October 30, 1961 in Vetschau-Belts, Kreis Calau - died 10th. January 2010 in Cottbus - was a German hurdler.
It is stated that Birgit was doped massively from the age of 15 and as a result she struggle with serious health issues. After the end of her career in 1985 she gave birth to a handicapped child. She was recognized by the Federal Office of Administration in Cologne as a GDR doping victim. In
1997 she joined other athletes and presented precise statements to the
Central Investigation Group on Governmental and Party crime an important
contribution to the clarification of State-doping in the GDR.
In 2000 she was co-plaintiff in the GDR doping process against Manfred Ewald and Manfred Hoeppner.
She died ten years later.
From 1981 to 1993 Birgit Uibel Sunday was married to the cycling coach Detlef Uibel. |
