Abeba Aregawi is pictured above during the heats of the 1,500 metres.
She was the 'fastest' qualifier with a time of 4:04.55 (!) The Final in London was the
slowest ever 1500m at an Olympic Games.
However, on May 31st. 2012 at the Gala meeting in Rome, she set a new Ethiopian 1,500 metres record of
3:56.54 by way of consolation. Abeba was born in Adigrat, Ethiopia and holds both Swedish
and Ethiopian citizenships.
She represented her birth country in middle-distance until December 2012.
