Almaz Ayana crosses the finish line of the women's 5,000m final in Beijing

at the 2015 World Championships, in a new Championship record time beating

Tirunesh Dibaba's 2005 record of 14:38.59 set in Helsinki. Ayana took the lead after

a few laps and was in control throughout the race. As the World's third fastest ever over

5,000m (14:14.32 in Shanghai in 2015) she was expected to win, but did so in style.

In the first athletics final of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games Almaz Ayana

smashed the world 10,000 metres record with a new time of 29:17.45,

beating the 24 year old record of China's Wang Junxia by an amazing 14 seconds.
