Biniam Mehary running in his heat of the men's 5,000 metres
at the Paris Olympics. The seventeen year old finished 2nd in
13:51.59 behind Jakob Ingebrigtsen.
At the Ethiopian Olympic trials Biniam Mehary did not to qualify to compete in the
Paris Olympic Games; he placed fourth in a world U20 record of 26:37.93, taking
four seconds off the previous mark set 19 years earlier by the late Samuel Wanjiru.
He was later included in the Ethiopian team for the 5,000 metres at the
at the expense of Yomif Kejelcha.
