Meseret DEFAR - Ethiopia - 2005 World Champs 5000m silver (result)

Meserat is pictured above (202) chasing her compatriot Tirunesh Dibaba in the home straight of the womens 5000m final at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki. Defar, the 2004 Olympic 5000m champion, was unable to catch Dibaba and had to settle for silver in a time of 14: 39.54. Ejegayehu Dibaba, the younger sister of Tirunesh, and Meselech Melkamu completed an Ethiopian 1-2-3-4. The inset picture shows a happy Meseret shortly after qualifying from her heat.
