Meseret DEFAR - Ethiopia - 2007 World Championships 5000m Gold (result)

The middle photo above shows a delighted Meseret crossing the line, arm raised in celebration, to win gold in the final of the womens 5000m at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Defar can be seen in the bottom right picture flying the flag and showing an Ethiopian millenium 2000 poster. The top right photo shows Meseret, the reigning Olympic champion, leading the field just ahead of her compatriot Meselech Melkamu. To Defar's immediate left is the silver medallist Vivian Cherono, whilst directly behind her is the bronze medal winner Priscah Jepleting Cherono. The left hand image also shows Meseret during the final. A confident Meseret later commented: "In Osaka, I am the world champion and it feels great. It was a very slow race and it was an easy race for me."
