Sileshi is pictured above (539) during the final of the mens 10,000m
at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Just ahead of him is his great
rival Kenenisa Bekele and once more it was Bekele who was to prevail,
beating Sihine to the gold medal by just over 3 seconds.
It was the
fourth time that Sileshi had won a silver medal at a major championship
and on three of those occasions it was that man Bekele who took the gold
(at the 2005 World Champs it was Benjamin Limo who took the 5,000m
gold). Sihine later commented: "It was a very tough competition,
especially the last lap.
Our team had plan for this race and everything
went as planned. The time was good, considering the weather. The track
felt fine, it was just the weather I didn't like. At the moment I am
satisfied with the silver medal. In the future however, I will try to
get the gold."
