The main photo above shows Sileshi Sihine (1663) with his Ethiopian
colleagues Kenenisa Bekele (centre) and Haile Gebreselassie shortly
after the finish of the mens 10,000m final at the 2008 Olympic Games in
Beijing. Sihine, once again, won the silver medal behind that
man Bekele in a time of 27.02.77, with two time Olympic champion
Gebreselassie coming in 6th.
The inset photo shows Sileshi on Bekele's
shoulder at the bell but he was unable to keep pace with his fast
finishing compatriot over the last lap. Sihine later commented: "It's
good to get the Ethiopian one-two. The last lap was tough, I tried to
keep up, but the pace was too fast." So silver medal number
five for Sihine, who can perhaps consider himself somewhat unfortunate
to be competing during the era of one of the true greats of distance
running, especially when one considers that his time of 27.02.77 would
have won him the 10,000m gold medal at every previous Olympic Games.
