Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad the 3,000m steeplechase champion in both 2010 and
2012 returned to the event at the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam,
where he won the title for a third time.
He contested the European 1,500m title in 2014 - which he won.
In 2007 he won the European U23 steeplechase championship in Debrecen.

The disqualification of Ezekiel Kemboi, who had passed the finish line third, gave
Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad the bronze medal at the Rio Olympics. He of course
won silver medals in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
