Renaud LAVILLENIE - France - Pole vault bronze medal at 2017 World Championships.

Renaud Lavillenie went trough all the emotions an athlete can during the
final of the pole vault. Coming into the competition at 5.65 ( all the others had 5.50
as their opening height) he cleared it and 5.75 first time. Indeed after his 5.75 jump
he went wild - which is what the inset pictures above show.

However, then matters did not go to plan. He failed 5.82 went straight to 5.89 clearing
it at his second attempt (remarkably for the World Record holder his season best)
and tried 5.95 twice. By then Sam Kenricks was in the driving seat. Renaud had to
try and gamble. It failed - he could not clear 6.01 (nor could Kenricks).

The main image above is his second failed attempt at 5.95.
