The bottom right photo above shows Betty Heidler flying her own
personal 'Betty flag' after her victory in the Hammer at the 2007 World
Championships in Osaka. The top right picture shows a delighted Betty
shortly after her winning throw whilst the middle image shows the German
youngster during her lap of honour. The left hand photo is also during
the final. Heidler later commented: "It is very nice to be the first in
the world. Before the final, I was not too nervous, I wanted to have fun
and enjoy the atmosphere and, of course, throw far. "After my second
attempt, I thought 'Oh, this is enough for a medal.' And I was really
pleased. After the fifth and sixth attempt, I was afraid to lose my gold
medal and I was very nervous - I trembled."
