Ten years after she last won a medal, the silver at the European U23 Championships in Erfurt,
Katharina Molitor won another : the Gold at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing.
Throwing a personal best of 76.69 in the 6th and final round the 31 year old was naturally
delighted. Only qualifying as one of the four throwers who failed to reach the qualifying distance
two days earlier, her win was totally unexpected. Her three fellow German throwers had all beaten
her in the qualifying stage. Her expression below perhaps says it all. Local hero Lü Huihui had thrown
an Asian record, in round five, of 66.13 so the Stadium was a buzz. It then went silent - well almost.
