An ecstatic Steffi is pictured above shortly after winning the gold
medal at the 2006 European Championships in Gothenburg. Her throw of
65.82m was a seasons best and left her just 18cm clear of the silver
medal winner Barbora Spotakova. It was the first time that Nerius had
'struck gold' at a major championship, having previously won a silver at
the Olympics, two bronzes at the Worlds and a silver at the Euros.
