After several years on the International circuit Thomas had a major breakthrough
in 2016, culminating with his gold medal at the Rio Olympic Games. It was the year
he passed the 90 metres mark for the first time. A throw of 91.25m on 29th. June at the
Paavo Nurmi Games (to the US and UK readers 7 inches short of 300 feet)
was the moment he knew the Olympics could prove to be the turning point of his
career. He was the German national champion in 2012, 2013 and 2015.
