In January 2012 Elliot had a serious motorcycle accident which prevented him from competing for over
three years. In 2016 he won the UK Championships, which gave him a place at the Europeans where
his bronze medal qualified him for the 2016 Olympics. He is pictured above in his semi final
(following Marcin Lewandowski) and in which he also finished third.

Five years later in February 2021 Elliot Giles smashed Sebastian Coe's thirty nine
year old British 800m indoor record with a fabulous time of 1:43.63 at a meeting in
Torun, Poland (during the Covid-19 crisis). A time that was the second fastest ever.
Wilson Kipketer's indoor world record of 1:42.67 was the only time faster than the
26 year old British athlete's time.
