The race action pictures above show the athletes in the home straight during the final of the womens 400m at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Christine (477) produced a terrific performance to win the gold medal in a new PB time of 49.61 secs, with compatriot Nicola Sanders (474) making it a memorable occasion for British athletics by winning silver. Jamaica's Novlene Williams (590), who had led for much of the race, took the bronze in 49.66 secs, just 1 hundredth of a second behind Sanders.

The other athlete in shot is Natalya Antyukh who finished in 6th place in a time of 50.33 secs. The left hand photo above shows Ohuruogu during the heats. Christine's gold medal performance completed a remarkable comeback, given that she had just returned from a year's suspension for missing three out-of-competition doping tests.

"This time last year I was in complete turmoil, " she said. "I didn't know what I was doing. It hasn't quite sunk in yet. "I'm just very happy I worked hard and everything came together at the right time. "On the finish line I said 'was it me?'... it's unbelievable, " she said. "I had butterflies I can tell you. Never in my wildest dreams could I have thought of coming back after my ban as world champion" Christine added, emotion clearly evident in her voice. The dream was to get even better though, as a few days later Ohuruogu would team up with Marilyn Okoro, Lee McConnell and Sanders to win a bronze medal for Britain in the 4x400m relay.
