Laura Muir winning the 1500m at the Anniversary Games in London, where she broke
Kelly Holmes British record, in a time of 3:57.49 (Holmes 3:57.90 in Athens 2004 & Olympic Gold).
However, she also bettered the record in Paris on August 27th. 2016, at the Paris Diamond League,
with a new best of 3:55.22, beating the Olympic Champion Faith Kipyegon (3:56.72) and all of the
2016 Olympic finalist.
Alas, at the Olympic Games she was a disappointing 7th, in a final that was slow and very tactical.
Third at the Bell behind Kipyegon and Dibaba the last lap took it toll and during the final 200m
she was over taken by three more of the field.
Laura's return the the Diamond League circuit - aside from the outstanding runs in London and Paris -
saw her win the actual League title at the final event in Zurich where she ran 3:57.85
behind Shannon Rowbury's 3:57.78.
An "if only" year for the University of Glasgow student (veterinary medicine).
