Katerina Stefanidi the Olympic and European pole vault champion added the World
title to her impressive list of victories, at the London World Championships. Entering the
competition last, with a first time clearance of 4.65 (and first time over 4.75, 4.82) she
had by then in effect won the event. Sandi Morris tried to clear 4.82 and 4.89 but failed
with all three vaults. Katerina failed her 4.89 attempt but sailed over 4.91 and then tried
5.02 three time.
