Ekaterini Thanou is pictured above - lane 5 - about to cross the line
in the bronze medal position in the womens 100m final at the 2001 World
Championships in Edmonton. Marion Jones (lane 3) finished first and
Zhanna Pintusevich-Block (lane 4) second. Jones was later disqualified
when she admitted she had taken performance enhancing drugs and each
athlete in the final was moved up 1 position, meaning that Thanou was
awarded the silver medal. |
