The race finish pictures above show the closing stages of the mens 100m at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Asafa (lane 6) won the bronze medal in a time of 9.96 secs, with Tyson Gay (lane 5) taking gold and Derrick Atkins (lane 6) the silver. It was a disappointing outcome for Powell who was expected to battle it out with Gay for the gold medal. He later said: "I'm disappointed as I was the favourite to win but I lost the race. I felt Gay coming on my shoulder and that's when I panicked. It slowed me down. I made a big mistake and things like that do happen. I wouldn't say I cannot shine at the big occasions, it was just an unfortunate incident." Asafa would later enjoy some redemption in the 4x100m relay; his devastating late burst winning the silver medal for Jamaica by just 1 hundredth of a second from Great Britain.
