Alex is pictured above winning the 1500m ahead of fellow Kenyan Bernard Lagat
at the 2006 Grand Prix Final in Stuttgart. A week later he represented Africa in the
World Cup, winning the 1500m in a time of 3: 52.60. Earlier in the year Kipchirchir
had won the 800m gold at the Commonwealth Games, his first medal at
a major championships.
