Beatrice Chepkoech is pictured during her heat of the women's steeplechase,
which she won in 9m19.03 - she was the fastest qualifier. Eleven months later she broke
the World Record by eight seconds with a time of 8:44.32 ! She thus became the first women
to break both 8:50 and 8:45 for the event. At the 2-18 Commonwealth Games she won the
silver medal in the 1,500m.
