Faith KIPYEGON - Kenya - 2020 Olympic 1500m Gold medal in Tokyo.

The photos above are of Faith Kipyegon winning the 1500 metres in
the famous Weltkasse Diamond League Meeting,in Zurich.

She beat Sifan Hassan (3.58.33 to 3:58.55) in the star studded race,

the two women having won three gold medals at the 2020 Olympic Games.

ON THE 2nd JUNE 2023 FAITH KIPYEGON BECAME THE FIRST WOMEN

TO BEAT 3.50 FOR THE 1500 METRES.

Running in the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea Diamond League meeting in Florence

Faith Kipyegon recorded a time of 3:49.11 to better Genzebe Dibaba's 2015

record of 3:50.07. She ran the last 800 in 2:00.6, her last 400 in 58.9

and her last 200 in 29.2. Laura Muir was second in 3:57.09 with Jessica Hull third

in 3:57.29, beating her Austraian record of 3:58.81.

 

AND THEN !

Just seven days later, on 9th June in Paris, Faith Kipyegon broke the women's 5,000m

world record with a time of 14:05.20 seconds. Running in the Diamond

League meeting the 29 year old Kipyegon beat the world current record holder

Letesenbet Gidey's 2020 record of 14:06.62, Gidey finished second in 14:07.94.

Kipyegon had only ever ran one 5,000m before Paris - in 2015.
