in a time of 8: 01.37, ahead of fellow Kenyan Richard Kipkemboi Mateelong and France's
Bouabdallah Tahri. A week later at the World Cup in Athens, Koech represented Africa in the
Steeplechase, finishing second behind Saif Saaeed Shaheen.
