The main photo above shows Richard clearing a hurdle during the final of the
3000m Steeplechase at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Brimin Kipruto
won the gold and Ezekiel Kemboi the silver, meaning Kenya completed a clean
sweep of the medals. The inset picture shows the trio 'flying the flag' during a
lap of honour shortly after the race; Richard is on the right, with Kipruto centre
of photo and Kemboi to the left. It was the first medal that the 23 year old
Mateelong had won at a major championship.
