Hicham is pictured above crossing the line to take the 5000m Gold at the 2004 Olympic Games
in Athens. It completed a magnificent double for the Moroccan who had captured the 1500m
title four days earlier. The left inset picture shows a delighted Hicham all smiles after the race
whilst the right photo shows him signalling 'two golds' !

Hicham is pictured above crossing the line just ahead of Kenya's
Bernard Lagat to take the 1500m Gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in
Athens. The victory realised a life time ambition for El Guerrouj who had
suffered the disappointment of falling in the 1996 Olympic 1500m final
and then finished a surprise second to Noah Ngeny four years later in
Sydney.
