Jaouad GHARIB - Morocco - 2003 & 2005 World Marathon Champion.

Jaouad is pictured above crossing the line in the silver medal position in the mens Marathon at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Gharib, the gold medallist at both the 2003 and 2005 World Championships, ran an excellent race in sweltering conditions to record a time 2.07.16 but was unable to beat off the challenge of Kenya's Samuel Kamau, who won in a new Olympic record time of 2.06.32. Interestingly Gharib's time was better than than his two gold medal successes - he ran 2.08.31 in 2003 and 2.10.10 in '05 - and it was only a fantastic performance from Wansiru that prevented him from sealing a third gold medal at a major championship.
