The photo above shows Dick Quax (691) crossing the finishing line to take the 5,000m silver medal behind Finland's Lasse Viren at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.
|
Dick was a former World record holder for the event: 13:12.87 Stockholm 1977.
This record stood for less than a year, but as a national record it stood for over 31 years,
until beaten by Adrian Blincoe in July 2008.
His best 10,000m time was 27:41.95 set in London, also in 1977.
