Had Tomas equalled his throw of 21.78m when winning the 2016 Indoor World Championships
he might have won the silver medal at the Rio Olympics. However his fifth round throw in Brazil
was his best of the competition and he had to settle for the bronze medal.

However, in Paris on 27th August 2016 Tomas had a double celebration. He firstly threw 21.99m and then
with his sixth attempt 22 metres for two New Zealand records. And he beat the 2016 Olympic Champion
Ryan Crouser into second place. Ryan threw 21.99 !
