Nelson EVORA - Portugal - 2007 World Championships Triple Jump Gold (result)

Nelson is pictured above during the final of the mens Triple Jump at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. He produced a terrific performance to win the gold medal with a new national record leap of 17.74m. It was Nelson's first medal at a major championship and what better colour to win than gold! Of his victory Evora said: "I am overwhelmed by this success. I cannot yet believe that I am the World champion." Coming into the championships Nelson's personal best was 17.51m (a national record) but he comfortably improved that in the final to win this somewhat surprise gold. Evora, who received his medal from Triple Jump legend and current World Record holder Jonathan Davies, admitted: "It was my aim to jump a personal best and I had hoped for a medal - but I never thought about the gold."
