The inset photo above shows Andrey acknowledging the crowd after his clearance
of 2.36m in the final of the mens High Jump at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
That jump was enough to win gold for the Russian, with his nearest challengers
Germaine Mason and Yaroslav Rybakov both failing at that same height.
The action photo shows Silnov, the 2006 European Champion, clearing an earlier height.

The pictures above show Andrey during the final of the men's High Jump at the 2006
European Championships in Gothenburg. He produced an exceptional performance to
win the gold medal with a new championship record jump of 2.36m - the previous
record of 2.35m, set by Steinar Hoen, had stood since 1994 - and can be seen in the
bottom left photo celebrating after the leap. Tomas Janku and Stefan Holm took the
silver and bronze medals respectively, Janku winning on the countback rule
as both men had cleared 2.34m.
