Tatyana LEBEDEVA - Russia - 2007 World Champs: Gold Long Jump & Silver Triple Jump.

The pictures above show Tatyana during the final of the women's Triple Jump at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Lebedeva, the 2001 & 2003 Triple Jump world champion, won the silver medal with a leap of 15.07m. It completed an excellent championship for the Russian, who had struck gold in the Long Jump just three days earlier (see previous page), but a somewhat disappointed Tatyana, who was the favourite for the gold medal, later commented: "That's life. I wanted the second gold ... the triple jump is my main event and again I did not win. I have all the major titles in the Long Jump." It was the second occasion that Lebedeva had medalled in both jumping events at the same championship, having also achieved the feat at the 2004 Olympic Games (gold in the Long Jump and bronze in the Triple Jump).

The main photo above shows Tatyana during the final of the women's Long Jump at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Lebedeva, the 2004 Olympic Long Jump champion, won the gold medal with a leap of 7.03m and can be seen celebrating her victory in the inset picture above. She later commented: "Today's competition was difficult because the others were well prepared and there were six jumpers with a PB over seven metres. There was a lot of pressure on me. I wanted to win for the spectators here in the stadium, for my family and my friends. What made it even more difficult was the changing wind and the heat. I would like to thank the spectators and God for my first world title in long jump." Tatyana also added a silver medal in the Triple Jump three days later to complete a memorable championships.
