Tatyana is pictured above during the final of the women's Long Jump
at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Lebedeva, the defending champion
following her success four years previously in Athens, agonisingly
missed out on retaining her title by just 1cm to Brazil's Maurren Maggi.
Going into the final round Tatyana's best jump was her opening effort
of 6.97m but like a true champion she produced a seasons best effort in
that final round to go so close to gold once more. It was, however, yet
another successful championship for the talented Russian, who also added
a further silver medal in the Triple Jump (see previous page). That
took her tally of medals in major championships to 10, of which half are
the colour gold !

Tatyana Lebedeva is pictured above during the final of the women's
Triple Jump at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Lebedeva, a silver
medallist at the 2000 Olympics and a bronze medal winner four years
later in Athens, was once again thwarted in her attempts to strike gold
in the Triple Jump at a major global championship and once more had to
'settle' for a silver medal, with Cameroon's Francoise Mbango Etone
taking the gold. Tatyana also won silver in the Long Jump at the 2008
Olympics and the details can be seen above.
