Yaroslav RYBAKOV - Russia - 2005 World Champs High Jump bronze (result)

A disappointed Yaroslav is pictured above after failing his third and final attempt at 2.32m in the final of the mens High Jump at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki. As he was the first jumper of the eight athletes left in the competition, Rybakov no doubt thought he had thrown away his chances of a medal, hence the anguished hand on head pose in the photo. Remarkably, though, only Yuriy Krymarenko with the 24th and last attempt at the height went clear, meaning that Yaroslav won the bronze medal on the countback rule.
