The pictures above show Yelena clearing a new World Record height of 4.91m
at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
It was a memorable moment for the Russian who had already clinched the
Gold medal minutes earlier when her great rival Svetlana Feofanova had failed
attempts at 4.80m, 4.85m & 4.90m. Yelena herself had only cleared 4.80m at
her third and final attempt to nudge ahead of Feofanova into the Gold medal position.

Yelena Isanbayeva is pictured above breaking her own world record with a vault of 4.90m
during the Norwich Union Grand Prix at London on 30th July 2004
She had set a world record of 4.87m in Gateshead on 27th June 2004 before compatriot
Svetlana Feofanova took the record with a vault of 4.88m on 4th July 2004. That record lasted
21 days before Yelena reclaimed the record in Birmingham and then added a further 1cm five days later!.
It was not long before Yelena broke the record by a further 1cm and this time it was on the
biggest stage of all - the Olympics Games in Athens.
