The main photo above shows Yelena shortly after winning gold in the women's Pole Vault at the 2006
European Championships in Gothenburg. Her winning height of 4.80m - a new championship record - was
well below her best but still left her comfortably clear of her nearest challengers Monika Pyrek and Tatyana Polnova,
who both recorded clearances of 4.65m. Isinbayeva's victory meant that she became one of an elite band
