Yuliya is pictured above leading the field at the bell in the final of the women's 1,500m at the 2006
European Championships in Gothenburg. The other athletes in shot are her compatriots Yelena Soboleva
(in second place in the photo above) and Tatyana Tomashova. Chizhenko went on to win the silver medal
behind Tomashova, whose time of 3: 56.91 was a new championship record. Soboleva finished in
fourth place with Bulgaria's Daniela Yordanova finishing third.
(On 20 October 2008, it was announced that Chizhenko-Fomenko and six other Russian athletes would receive
two-year doping bans for manipulating drug samples.)

The right hand inset pictures above show Yuliya (623) about to cross the line in the silver medal
position in the women's 1500m final at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki. Sadly for
Chizhenko she was later disqualified for obstructing Maryam Yusuf Jamal, meaning that
Olga Yegerova was elevated from third place to second and Bouchra Ghezielle from fourth
place to third. The left hand photo shows Chizhenko during the heats.
