The main photo above shows Yuliya Pechonika in full flow during the heats of
the womens 400m Hurdles at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki. She
qualified comfortably for the final, winning both her heat and semi,
then produced an excellent performance in the final itself to win gold
in a time of 52.90, the leading time in the world for 2005. The inset
picture shows the closing few metres of the final with Pechonkina
(centre) clearing the final hurdle on her way to victory. Lashinda Demus
(out of shot) won the silver and Sandra Glover (second right) the
bronze. |
