Jordan Diaz jumping during the final of the men's triple jump in Paris,
where he won the Gold medal, beating defending champion Pedro Pichardo.
That defeat of Pichardo confimed Europe and the World had a new number
one for the event. Jordan Diaz had proved this by winning the European Championship,
taking the title held by Pichardo, with a Spanish record leap of 18.18m, which was also a
Championship record. It was only on 7th June 2024 that Jordan Diaz became a Spanish
citizen. Both he and Pedro are Cuban by birth.
