Armand DUPLANTIS - Sweden - Pole vault gold at 2018 European Championships aged 18.

Armand "Mondo" Duplantis became the second teenage sensation * of the 2018 European

Athletics Championshipsin Berlin, when, on the final evening of competition he won the men's

pole vault with a height of 6.05 metres (a World under 20 record) defeating amongst others

three times champion Renaud Lavillenie.  The 18 year old (son of USA vaulter Greg Duplantis: P.B.

5.80m) had already won the World under 18 and 20 titles, so his pedigree was known, but

few expected him to sail over 6.00m and then 6.05m with such confidence. The main photo

above was taken early on in the final (he even had a failure !) and the inset of Armand clearing

6.00 metres.
