The pictures above show Carolina during all four field events -
Long Jump, Shot Put, Javelin and High Jump - of the womens Heptathlon at
the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. The incomparable Kluft once
again took gold, thus defending successfully the title she had won in
2003 and 2005. She opened the event in terrific fashion with new PBs in
the two opening events - the 100m Hurdles and the High Jump - to head
the field and it was a lead that Carolina would never relinquish, her
total of 7032 points a new PB. It was also a new European record points
total, beating the previous best by 25 points, set by Larisa Nikitina,
of the former Soviet Union, in 1989. Of her victory, Carolina said "I've
been working so hard these last two days and Lyudmila pushed me all the
time. But I just like to compete and push myself. To achieve a PB was
my biggest motivation and the European record is a great bonus."
