Alberto Salazar is seen here during the 10,000 metres final at the first World Athletics Championships
in Helsinki, where he finished 17th. However it was a a marathon runner and coach that he is
best remembered.
He won the New York marathon in 1980, 1981 and 1983 and the Boston marathon in 1982.
He held the U.S.A. track records for 5,000m 13:11.93 (July 6, 1982 – Stockholm)
and for 10,000 m 27:25.61 (June 26, 1982 – Oslo).
