Bernard LAGAT - U.S.A. - 2007 World Championships 1500m Gold (result)

A delighted Bernard is pictured above shortly after crossing the line to win gold in the final of the mens 1500m at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. Rashid Ramzi (408) won the silver and Shedrack Kibet Korir (773) the bronze. It was the first time that Lagat had struck gold at a major championship, having previously won bronze at the 2000 Olympic Games, silver at the 2001 Worlds and a further silver at the Athens '04 Olympics. All good things come to those who wait though, and Lagat would not have to wait much longer for his second gold medal, coming as it did in the 5000m just a few days later! Details of that 5000m victory can be seen on the following page. Bernard commented after his victory in the 1500m: "I executed my kick extremely well and that was the key to winning. Today was a perfect day. I have waited so long for that medal. I feel very special."
